Mumbai Traffic Advisory During Modi-Macron Visit: Mumbai Traffic Police enforce strict WEH and South Mumbai diversions today. Expect heavy congestion near Gateway of India and a 13-hour heavy vehicle ban.
South Mumbai and the Western Express Highway are expected to experience heavy traffic on Monday (February 17) as French President Emmanuel Macron, who arrived India this morning, will have a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit, marking the launch of the India-France Year of Innovation 2026, has prompted the Mumbai Traffic Police to implement a series of stringent road closures and diversions.
The diplomatic itinerary kicks off at 3:15 PM at Lok Bhavan, followed by a major event at the Gateway of India at 5:15 PM. Due to these VVIP movements, traffic restrictions will be in full effect from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM across the city’s southern hub.
Road Closures and Diversions Today
The following arterial routes will be strictly off-limits to general vehicular traffic:
Alternative: Commuters are advised to divert via Shahid Bhagat Singh Marg and Mahakavi Bhushan Road.
Adam Street: Closed from Jokhim Alva Chowk to the Adam Street junction.
Alternative: Vehicles heading toward the Radio Club area must use P. Ramchandani Marg and Haji Niyaz Azmi Road.
Western Express Highway (WEH) Alert
In a move to streamline security, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) are barred from the Western Express Highway between Vakola Flyover and Dahisar Toll Naka from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. While light vehicles are permitted, authorities have warned of “ripple-effect” delays across the suburbs.
Parking and Public Transport Disruptions
To ensure the security of the international dignitaries, the following facilities will be suspended:
No-Parking Zones: Strict enforcement is in place on Nathalal Parekh Road, Captain Prakash Pethe Road, and the stretch behind Hotel Taj (from Raobahadur Desai Chowk to Hotel Diplomat).
Public Transport: All BEST bus stands and taxi stands situated at Adam Street and P. Ramchandani Marg will remain closed throughout the afternoon and evening.
Advisory for Residents
Police officials have urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel to South Mumbai until after 9:00 PM. Commuters heading to the airport or railway station are suggested to use local train to avoid the heavy traffic.
