Chennai News: The IMD forecasts light to heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with extreme downpours in some areas. School closures are announced in several districts, including Madurai and Mayiladuthurai. Fishermen are advised against sea ventures due to rough conditions. The North East monsoon remains active, with yellow alerts issued.
Tamil Nadu Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across much of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in some areas. Isolated locations may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly in the Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts.
The IMD has also mentioned the likelihood of extreme downpours at select spots, with heavy rain anticipated in several other districts, including Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu, among others. As a result of the ongoing rain, District Collectors in Madurai and Mayiladuthurai have announced school closures for the day.
Schools in Tiruchi and Thanjavur districts, as well as in Pudukottai and Karur, were also closed due to the weather. In Chennai, schools continued to function, with only light showers reported in the area.
Additionally, Holidays have been declared for schools in Dindigul, Theni, Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts, as well as for colleges in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi.
