Farmers Protest : ‘Tractor march’ in states outside Punjab today; suspension of internet services continues

Delhi Farmers Protest Today News Updates: After a ‘jatha’ of 101 farmers was stopped by the Haryana police at the Shambhu border leading to the march being withdrawn, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced a ‘tractor march’ in states outside Punjab on Monday. Pandher also announced ‘Rail roko’ from 12 noon till 3 pm in Punjab on Wednesday. The march at the Shambhu border was also withdrawn after a few of the farmers were injured and hospitalised.

Earlier, the agitating farmers had made two attempts on December 6 and 8 which were thwarted by the Haryana security personnel who fired tear gas shells and used water cannons to disperse them. A total of 22 farmers were then injured. The Haryana government early Saturday suspended the internet services in the areas which fall within the jurisdictions of the Ambala district, beginning at 6 am till 11:59 pm on December 17, in view of the farmers’ march.

Meanwhile, Sarwan Singh Pandher appealed to the people of Punjab to join the ‘Rail roko’ agitation scheduled by farmers on December 18. “I want to appeal to the people of Punjab to participate in the ‘Rail Roko’ agitating on December 18. We request all the people of all the 13,000 villages in Punjab who live near railway tracks to block their nearest railway crossings and railway stations from 12 to 3 pm,” Pandher said, as quoted by ANI. The farmer leader further accused the opposition, especially Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, for not delivering on the party’s promises for farmers.
