The Chennai Meteorological Department has released a seven-day weather forecast, indicating a generally cloudy sky with light rain expected on December 23 and 27. From December 24 to 26, residents can anticipate partly cloudy conditions with a chance of moderate rain or thunderstorms.
Temperatures in Chennai are expected to range from a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will remain steady at around 23 degrees Celsius. By December 28 and 29, rain is anticipated, with minimum temperatures dropping to 22 degrees Celsius and maximums reaching 31 degrees Celsius. Residents are advised to prepare for wet weather and potential thunderstorms during this period.
In addition, the department has issued a heavy rain warning for the Chengalpattu, Villupuram and Cuddalore districts on Tuesday. This warning comes as a deep
depression in the Bay of Bengal moves towards the coasts of North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh. Moderate rain may occur in isolated areas across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
For the next two days, heavy rainfall is forecast for Chengalpattu, Villupuram and Cuddalore, with rain also expected in Puducherry on December 25. Chennai and its surrounding areas can expect partly cloudy skies, with moderate rain possible in some locations.
Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea due to the threat of cyclonic storms, which are likely to persist along the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, as well as in the central-west Bay of Bengal and the adjacent southwestern Bay of Bengal, until December 25.
Last week, Chennai and surrounding districts, including Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu, experienced heavy rainfall due to a well-marked low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.
