Dense Fog Engulfs Parts Of Delhi On New Year’s Day, Partly Cloudy Skies On Forecast

Dense fog was seen in many parts of Delhi-NCR on New Year’s Day, with the minimum temperature recorded at 10.4°C. The weather office predicted partly cloudy skies for today.

Parts of Delhi-NCR woke up to a dense layer of fog on the first day of the new year (Wednesday). According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature recorded at 5.30 am today was 10.4 degrees Celsius.Further, the weather department predicted partly cloudy skies with shallow to moderate fog for the day.

Surface winds are expected to blow predominantly from the northwest at speeds lower than 8 kilometres per hour during the morning, accompanied by smog or shallow fog in most areas and moderate fog in isolated places, it said.The wind speed is likely to increase to 14 to 18 kilometres per hour during the afternoon and gradually decline to less than 8 kilometres per hour by the evening, according to the weather department.

It also said that the maximum temperature was expected to hover around 18 degrees Celsius today.On Tuesday the last day of the year 2024, Delhi’s maximum temperature settled at 17.7 degrees Celsius, 2.7 notches below normal.The minimum temperature had settled 2.6 notches above normal at 9.6 degrees Celsius, the Met office said.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s 24-hour Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the ‘poor’ category with a reading of 283 at 4 pm on Tuesday.
