Chennai Records Lowest Nighttime Temp of 2025; IMD Predicts Rain in Coming Days

Chennai is set to witness rain in coming days, predicted the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meenambakkam observatory of Chennai on Wednesday recoded the lowest during nighttime of this year.ChennaiWith the night temperature dropping to 20.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday before sunrise, it is expected that Chennai is likely to witness rain in coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also updated the residents regarding the possibility of rain during the weekend, which is likely to continue for a few days afterwards.
For Thursday, January 9, the IMD has predicted fog in the morning and cloudy sky later in the day. The maximum temperature will be 31 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature be 21 degrees Celsius. The same weather trend will continue on Friday, with partly cloudy sky.However, the weather is expected to turn rainy from January 11. It is expected that there will be partly cloudy sky with a possibility of rain and thunderstorm. This trend is likely to continue till January 14, which may extend further. During this time, the maximum temperature will be 30 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperature fluctuating between 22 and 23.

Meanwhile, the Nungambakkam observatory that includes the central areas of Chennai recorded 21°C, which is about 0.7°C below the usual temperature. The minimum humidity level was recorded at 60 per cent at this station since it is located closer to the coast.Average minimum temperature of Chennai in January is 21.5°C.
