New Delhi:The day of Makar Sankranti in the national capital starts with chill and foggy weather. Weather department has issued an alert of dense to very Dense fog for Tuesday morning. The temperature was recorded at 8 degrees Celsius. The air quality remains in poor category with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 250. On January 12, the restrictions under Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR were lifted by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), after the air quality improved considerably due to two days of rain.
The weather forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for the city from January 14 to 20 indicates mostly foggy conditions in the mornings. On January 15 and 16, the city is expected to witness a cloudy sky with light rain or drizzles. The minimum temperature will hover between 7 to 9 degrees Celsius.The air quality in many areas of Delhi still remains at ‘very poor’ category with AQI reaching above the 300 mark. These areas include Anand Vihar (356), Ashok Vihar (302), Nehru Nagar (312), Patparganj (346), Vivek Vihar (327) and Wazirpur (326).
In the NCR region the AQI on Tuesday morning in Noida remains at 145, in Gurugram at 139, in Greater Noida at 134 and 155 in Ghaziabad.The AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51 to 100 as satisfactory, 101 to 200 as moderate, 201 to 300 as poor, 301 to 400 as very poor, 401 to 500 as severe and above 500 as hazardous.
