Mumbaikars are in for sweltering days as temperatures continue to soar. On Wednesday, the mercury hit 37.4°C, 4.4°C above the seasonal average, marking an unusually hot spell for this time of year.A similar surge in late February triggered heatwave warnings for two consecutive days, February 25 and 26. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted even hotter days ahead, predicting a maximum temperature of 38°C on Sunday.
Weather enthusiasts believe the heat will peak between March 9 and 11, making the coming days particularly uncomfortable. On Wednesday, IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum of 37.4°C, slightly higher than Tuesday’s 36.8°C. Meanwhile, the Colaba observatory logged 33.4°C, which was 2.2°C above normal and marginally warmer than Tuesday’s 33.1°C.
IMD oicials have attributed the rising temperatures to strong easterly winds, which are preventing the usual sea breeze from cooling the city. With no signicant relief in sight, Mumbaikars are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against the scorching heat.
