Pune bridge collapse news: A footbridge in Pune’s Maval tehsil collapsed on Sunday due to rust and overcrowding, resulting in four fatalities and multiple injuries. The bridge, designed for pedestrians only, gave way under the weight of approximately 100 people. Authorities have launched an investigation into the structural integrity and crowd control measures, while rescue operations continue for the missing.Structural failure caused by rust and overcrowding led to the collapse of a footbridge on Sunday in Pune’s Maval tehsil, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said.
The incident took place around 3:30 pm in the Kundamala area, where nearly 100 people had gathered on the bridge over the Indrayani River.“We have received various versions of the incident. As per the preliminary
information, the bridge was old and rusted. Many people were standing on the bridge when it collapsed,” Pawar said after visiting the site. A warning board at the site prohibited the entry of twowheelers. However, oicials believe the advisory was ignored. Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan said, “The bridge was meant only for pedestrians. Four people lost their lives in the collapse, while at least 18 sustained serious injuries. Search operations are ongoing for three missing persons, including a child. Cranes and rescue equipment are being used to clear debris.
