Delhi woke up to rain-soaked streets and cool breezes on Monday, as the monsoon finally arrived, bringing relief from days of intense heat. The IMD confirmed monsoon coverage across the entire country, nine days ahead of schedule.
The southwest monsoon officially arrived in Delhi on Sunday, two days later than its usual onset date of June 27, bringing a welcome wave of respite. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also announced that the monsoon has now covered the entire country nine days ahead of the typical timeline of July 8.

July 3: Cloudy weather with light rain and possible thunderstorm/lightning. Temperatures expected between 32–34°C and 26–28°C. July 4: Light rain likely under cloudy skies, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning. Winds may reach up to 15 kmph during the day. July 5: Generally cloudy with light rain, thunderstorm, and lightning expected. No heat wave; strong southeasterly winds likely.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the IMD said, “The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, and has covered the entire Delhi region on June 29. Thus, the monsoon has now covered the entire country, ahead of its usual schedule.”
This marks the earliest nationwide monsoon coverage since 2020, when the entire country came under its influence by June 26. Similar early progress was observed in 2015 and 2013, when the monsoon enveloped India by June 26 and June 16, respectively.
