Mumbai is set for yet another wet day as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) maintains an orange alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rain across the city. For the second day in a row, the suburbs have been pounded by intense showers, though officials say there is no cause for alarm akin to the infamous 26 July 2005 deluge.
Suburban Showers Cross 100 mm Again According to IMD data, the Santacruz observatory recorded 108 mm of rainfall between Monday and Tuesday morning (till 8.30 am), while Colaba in south Mumbai logged 40 mm. On Wednesday too, rain continued to lash the city with high humidity levels peaking at 95%. Despite this, the rainfall has been spread out across hours, avoiding flash flooding scenarios. The steady downpour may bring disruption, but not devastation.
