Hyderabad Under Heavy Rain Alert: Telangana to Face Possible Flood-Like Situation

A well-marked low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy to flooding rains across Telangana between 14 and 17 August. Authorities have been urged to stay prepared as forecasts indicate intense downpours in several districts.

Authorities in Telangana have been urged to remain on high alert as a well-marked low-pressure area (LPA) is set to bring heavy to flooding rainfall to the state between 14 and 17 August. The weather system is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal near North Andhra on 13 or 14 August before moving westwards towards Telangana.

According to weather forecasts, the LPA has an 80% probability of tracking towards East and Central Telangana and a 20% chance of heading towards East and North Telangana. This weather system is predicted to bring intense spells of rain, raising the risk of waterlogging, localised flooding, and disruption to normal life.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers for Hyderabad in the coming days, gradually intensifying from 14 August. Temperatures are expected to range between 27°C and 20°C during this period, with humidity levels peaking at over 90% on 15 August.

Advisory to Officials and Residents Officials have been advised to take all necessary precautions in advance to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Preparations include clearing stormwater drains, setting up relief measures, and ensuring emergency response teams are on standby.

A second update on the LPA’s development and its precise track is expected tomorrow. Residents are urged to stay informed and follow official advisories as the system approaches.
