To protect Gurugram, one of the most polluted cities in the country, from the ravages of air pollution, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has implemented this year’s action plan. Instructions have been issued to crack down on old vehicles and DG
sets.
The HSPCB has begun the process of removing diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years from the roads. Officials said approximately 1.5 million such vehicles have been identified in both Gurugram and Faridabad districts. District transport departments and traffic police have been directed to take action against these old and highly polluting vehicles.
Builders of all construction and development projects larger than 500 square meters will be required to register themselves on the state’s dust control portal. HSPCB officials will conduct regular inspections of registered sites. Violations will be prosecuted. Additionally, the corporation will increase the number of water sprinklers from eight to 40.
To improve air quality, the Gurugram administration has issued an order banning diesel generators. This ban applies to all sectors except essential services. Industries have also been directed to switch
to green fuels (such as PNG or clean energy sources). Failure to do so will result in fines.
