If you’re driving through Swargate this weekend, prepare for some detours! The Pune City Traffic Police have announced traffic diversions near the Keshavrao Jagtap Chowk underpass, as crucial repair and maintenance work is set to take place from 11 p.m. on November 7 to 7 a.m. on November 10.
This temporary closure is likely to impact traffic flow through the busy Swargate underpass, which serves as one of Pune’s main connecting points for commuters heading towards Sarasbaug, Tilak Road, and Shankar Sheth Road.
Alternate Route Announced
As per the traffic advisory released by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav, vehicles moving from Keshavrao Jedhe Chowk towards Sarasbaug via the underpass will now need to take the Anna Bhau Sathe Road (via the Anna Bhau Sathe Statue) to reach their destinations. These diversions are anticipated to facilitate a smooth flow of traffic and prevent bottlenecks during the repair period.
Motorists Advised to Plan Ahead
The traffic police have requested that motorists plan their routes ahead of time, adhere to diversion signs, and cooperate with on-ground officers to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. The changes are being implemented under Sections 115, 116(1)(A)(B), 116(4), and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which grant authorities the power to regulate traffic in the public interest during maintenance work. Regular traffic flow through the Swargate underpass is expected to resume by 7 a.m. on November 10, once the repairs are finalized.
