Commuters using New Rohtak Road in central Delhi are in for prolonged delays, with vehicular movement set to remain restricted till January 31 due to underground cable maintenance and upgradation work. The advisory was issued on Thursday by the Delhi Traffic Police, urging motorists to avoid the affected stretch and plan their travel in advance.
The work is being carried out by Tata Power-Delhi Distribution Limited on the busy stretch between Kamal T-Point and Liberty Cinema towards Paharganj. As part of the project, two lanes have been occupied, significantly reducing road space and resulting in slow-moving traffic and frequent congestion in the area.Officials said the restrictions will remain in place throughout the duration of the work, impacting daily commuters, commercial vehicles and local traffic.
Authorities have advised people to avoid the Anand Parbat–New Rohtak Road stretch between Kamal T-Point and Liberty Cinema to minimise inconvenience. Traffic snarls are expected to be worse during peak hours, especially in the morning and evening.According to the traffic advisory, vehicles heading towards Paharganj and New Delhi should turn left at Kamal T-Point towards Sarai Rohilla and then take a right onto Veer Banda Bairagi Marg, proceeding further via Rani Jhansi Road.
The Delhi Traffic Police has urged commuters to start early, stay patient, and strictly follow directions given by traffic personnel deployed at key junctions. Authorities have also requested drivers to keep a check on live traffic updates to avoid getting stuck in long queues.With restrictions set to continue for the rest of the month, commuters are advised to factor in extra travel time while navigating through central Delhi.
