All retail outlets and businesses throughout Pune city will be closed for the entire day on Thursday, January 29, in response to the tragic passing of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Pune’s guardian minister, Ajit Pawar. This decision was made by the Pune Vyapari Mahasangh as a tribute to the esteemed leader, whose unexpected death has profoundly impacted the city’s trading community.
In their announcement regarding the closure, Pune Vyapari Mahasangh president Fatechand Ranka and secretary Mahendra Pitaliya stated that all traders are urged to keep their businesses closed for the entire day. They characterized Pawar’s passing as “extremely painful and shocking,” emphasizing that it represents an irreparable loss not only for Maharashtra but also for Pune’s business sector.
Ranka remarked that Ajit Pawar was a disciplined, candid, and effective leader who dedicated himself to public service. “He consistently approached issues concerning industry, business, and traders with a positive and pragmatic mindset,” he noted. Emphasizing Pawar’s impact on Pune and the surrounding district, Ranka highlighted that his efforts in enhancing infrastructure, refining economic systems, and addressing the concerns of traders will be remembered for many years to come.
On behalf of the traders’ federation, Pitaliya conveyed sincere condolences to Pawar’s family, relatives, and supporters. He mentioned that prayers are being offered for the peace of the departed soul and for strength to the family and followers to cope with the loss. The passing of Ajit Pawar has sparked widespread mourning throughout Pune, with political, social, and business organizations organizing shutdowns and tribute meetings in his honor.
