Delhi Braces for Rainy Spell: IMD Sounds Yellow Alert, Thunderstorms Likely for 2 Days

Delhi weather today: Delhi is set for significant changes, with cold mornings giving way to heavy rainfall over March 19 to 21, prompting a yellow alert from the IMD.

The city is currently witnessing cold mornings and is likely to see heavy rain for two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for March 20 and 21. Residents are advised to make their plans for the weekend accordingly. The rain may hit road traffic, causing significant problems to commuters. It is advisable that they use public transport instead of their private vehicles to avoid disruption. Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi currently stands at 201, as residents continue to struggle for clean air. The situation has persisted for months and may worsen temporarily during the storm period before easing as the week progresses.

A significant improvement is expected from 21st March onwards, as the storms clear and give way to partly cloudy skies. The remaining three days (21–23 Mar) are largely calm with no weather warnings issued. However, humidity spikes notably on the 21st (85), suggesting the air will feel heavy and muggy even as the rain subsides.
