Delhi-NCR is likely to witness light rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds as IMD issues a yellow alert, bringing temporary relief from humid heat.
Delhi-NCR residents may finally get relief from the humid heat as the weather is expected to change once again on Sunday (May 10) evening. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cloudy skies, light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are likely across several parts of Delhi and nearby NCR regions. A yellow alert has been issued for multiple districts in the national capital.
The sudden weather shift comes after days of sticky heat and rising temperatures in the city. The IMD has warned that strong winds and lightning activity may affect normal movement during evening and night hours.
As per the latest weather bulletin, areas including North Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, South West Delhi and South East Delhi are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light rainfall.
Similar weather conditions are also expected in New Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram. Wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 kmph during the storm activity.The weather department has advised people to remain cautious during lightning activity and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms. Commuters may also face temporary traffic disruptions in some parts of Delhi-NCR due to rain and gusty winds.
The changing weather pattern is expected to continue over the coming days as well. On May 12, light rain and thunderstorms are likely in areas around Mungeshpur, Najafgarh and Palam, especially during afternoon and evening hours. Wind speeds may again touch 50 kmph.
Cloudy skies are expected to persist on May 13, with chances of thundercloud development during morning hours. However, from May 14 and May 15 onward, the weather is likely to clear gradually.
With clearer skies returning, Delhi may once again witness a rise of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in temperature, bringing back intense summer heat across the region.
