Investigation underway after bomb threat call to Mumbai Police Control Room

The Mumbai Police have initiated a probe to trace an unidentified caller who allegedly threatened a bomb blast in the city, officials stated on Friday.

Preliminary information reveals that the Mumbai Police Control Room received details of a bomb threat following a call made to the Delhi Police Control Room at approximately 2 AM by an unidentified individual. Due to the seriousness of the situation, the Delhi Police immediately alerted the Maharashtra Police Control Room and the Mumbai Police.

The caller purportedly claimed that a bomb blast would occur in Mumbai on Friday before disconnecting the call. Attempts by police to contact the number again found the mobile phone switched off. Authorities have launched a search to trace the unidentified caller.Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that no suspicious activity has been discovered thus far.

Separately, on Thursday, a bomb threat was issued to Navi Mumbai International Airport via its official website, leading to a registered case and an investigation, officials reported. The threat was communicated at around 7:20 AM on Wednesday when a message in English was received on the airport project’s website, stating a bomb had been placed inside the airport premises and warning for immediate evacuation. The message caused concern and panic in the area.

Following a complaint by an airport employee, the Airport Police Station registered a non-cognisable offence against the holder of an email ID and a mobile number linked to the threat. Sub-Inspector Ramesh Patil is leading the probe to identify the individual responsible.
