Chennai and neighbouring districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next few days. As the Monsoons retreat, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued alert for the capital city of Tamil Nadu and neighbouring districts. An orange alert has been issued for today while a Red Alert for Chennai and neighbouring districts as well as Puducherry has been issued for October 15 and 16. It is expected that the schools in the districts might be closed for safety.

Andhra Pradesh government has announced holiday for schools and colleges across Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, and Prakasam districts till October 17, 2024.
