Pune divisional commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar chaired a meeting on Wednesday to assess monsoon readiness, following IMD’s forecast of above-average rainfall. He instructed all departments to stay fully prepared for floods and focus on disaster management.
The meeting, held at the commissioner’s office, included senior officials like Kolhapur Range IG Sunil Phulari, PCMC commissioner Shekhar Singh, PMC and Zilla Parishad officers, and PWD and revenue officials. Representatives from Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur joined via video call. Dr. Pulkundwar stressed inter-departmental coordination, availability of food and medicines, clean drinking water, and transport during floods. He directed 24×7 emergency response readiness and urged the water resources department to use CDAC’s flood models and coordinate with IMD. Danger levels should be marked on river bridges.
The PWD was asked to inspect public buildings and bridges. Relief shelters must be arranged for displaced people. Inter-state coordination and collaboration with the water resources department were emphasized. Two NDRF teams will be stationed in Pune, one kept in reserve, and one team each deployed in Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara. NHAI was advised to plan alternate traffic routes in flood-prone areas.
