Bengaluru is set for two more days of moderate to heavy rain, with the IMD’s yellow alert in place until 11 August. Continuous showers have caused waterlogging, traffic chaos, and health concerns in several parts of the city. Bengaluru is in the grip of a wet spell, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for the next 48 hours. Heavy showers have lashed the city since Saturday night, disrupting daily life and leaving several low-lying areas waterlogged.
From Koramangala to Ramamurthy Nagar, key routes have turned into water channels, slowing traffic to a crawl. Motorists waded through knee-deep water in pockets of V.Nagenahalli, which recorded the highest rainfall at 42 mm. Other areas such as Hampi Nagar (30.5 mm), Jakkuru and Horamavu-2 (27.5 mm each) and Singasandra-2 (24 mm) also bore the brunt. Residents in low-lying neighbourhoods are now battling stagnant water around their homes. Many fear a rise in mosquito-borne illnesses if the water is not cleared soon.
Bengaluru Weather: Monsoon’s Sudden Revival The IMD has attributed the downpour to a strong revival of the southwest monsoon, which entered a “break phase” on 4 August and is expected to end on 12 August, as per a solo forecaster on X named ‘Namma Karnataka Weather’. Meteorologists say a circulation is forming over north Andhra Pradesh, with the potential to develop into a low-pressure area. This could trigger widespread moderate to heavy rains in coastal districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada from 12 to 18 August.
While Malnad regions like Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga may receive moderate showers (30–60 mm) and isolated heavy downpours exceeding 100 mm, the UK and Belagavi highlands are likely to see more consistent heavy rainfall.
