As Bengaluru enters December, the city experiences a winter chill and grey skies, with the potential for rain influenced by Cyclone Ditwah in the Bay of Bengal. Despite concerns, forecasts indicate only light to moderate rainfall, unlike the heavy storms impacting Tamil Nadu.
Bengaluru is stepping into December with a familiar winter chill, grey cloud cover, and the promise of rain lingering in the air. The last two weeks have already seen temperatures slip noticeably, and now all eyes are on Cyclone Ditwah brewing in the Bay of Bengal — raising a big question for the city
Despite buzz around the incoming storm, weather models suggest that Bengaluru will only receive some rain — not the kind of heavy lashings Chennai or Tamil Nadu will face.
For 29 November, the IMD forecasts a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain. Humidity is expected to hover around 90–54%, similar to today, and winds will continue to remain gentle to moderate.According to senior IMD scientist C S Patil, the recent chill and cloud-heavy conditions are linked to Easterly Waves, not directly to Cyclone Ditwah. The system may feed moisture into Karnataka, but the storm’s core intensity remains focused along the Tamil Nadu coastline.
The city has already felt light showers over the past 15 days, pulling day and night temperatures slightly below normal. Through the weekend, forecasters expect continued cloudiness, early-morning mist, and on-and-off rain bands as Ditwah moves inland.
From 30 November onwards, Bengaluru could see more rainfall — with parts of the city likely to receive moderate to heavy showers at intervals. However, severe weather warnings have not been issued, meaning residents can expect rain, but not storm disruption.
