Chennai Braces for Intense Weather: Week Full of Rain and Thunderstorms – Here’s What to Expect

Chennai is preparing for a week of consistent rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department predicting light to moderate showers, thunderstorms, and lightning through the weekend due to an active northeast monsoon. Residents can expect fluctuating temperatures, mainly between 29°C and 32°C for highs, and 23°C to 25°C for lows.

Chennai is gearing up for a spell of persistent rain through the week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a forecast of light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning until the weekend. As the northeast monsoon remains active over Tamil Nadu, the city is expected to witness fluctuating temperatures, cloudy skies, and intermittent downpours, keeping residents on alert.

According to the IMD’s seven-day forecast, Chennai will see a mix of partly cloudy to generally cloudy conditions, with several days marked by thunderstorms and lightning. The maximum temperature is likely to hover between 29 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected to remain steady between 23 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius.

With frequent thunderstorms expected over the next five days, the IMD has advised residents to remain cautious, especially during evening hours when convective activity tends to intensify. Waterlogging, traffic delays, and occasional power disruptions, common during monsoon spells in Chennai, may also be expected.

The city’s civic authorities have been alerted to manage potential flooding in low-lying areas, while motorists are encouraged to avoid waterlogged streets and stay updated on real-time weather alerts.
