Chennai will see light rain turning heavier by the weekend, with alerts for Sunday and Monday as widespread rainfall is expected across Tamil Nadu due to a cyclonic circulation. The city is experiencing light rainfall, which is expected to intensify this weekend. As of now, there is no alert for Chennai for the next two days. However, a two-day alert has been issued in advance for Sunday and Monday, November 16 and 17.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the next two days, advising residents to remain vigilant and adjust their outdoor plans accordingly. According to several weather experts, the second half of November is going to be rainy. “Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Islands,” said the weather department in its official statement.
“Light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorm at most/many places with isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Tamil Nadu on 12th,17th & 18th; over Kerala & Mahe on 12th & 13th; over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema on 17th & 18th November. Thunderstorm with lightning very likely over Tamil Nadu on 12th &17th over Kerala & Mahe during 12th -14th; over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on 17th & 18th November,” the IMD added.
A solo weather forecast also added, “Parts of South Tamil Nadu will continue to see moderate rains under the influence of a broad circulation over South Bay. Isolated places in Ramanathapuram district and few places in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts may see heavy rains. Isolated rains may happen over North Coastal TN, but overall drier weather may prevail.”
