Chennai Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) put Chennai on a yellow alert and forecast rainfall, starting Tuesday, December 10. The city will experience a cyclonic disturbance, bringing heavy rainfall as a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the central regions of the south Bay of Bengal. IMD has also issued a heavy rain alert for five Tamil Nadu districts, including, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, and Cuddalore districts, as well as in the Puducherry and Karaikal areas from December 10 to 13 (Tuesday and Friday). Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengelpet districts are also on a yellow alert and will see heavy rain on December 11 and 12 (Tuesday and Wednesday).
IMD attributes this weather system to cyclonic activity in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to intensify and move in a west-northwest direction, reaching the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coast by December 12, potentially causing significant rainfall across Tamil Nadu.Today, the IMD has predicted fog or mist in the morning, followed by a partly cloudy sky later in the day. The maximum temperature is expected to be 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is forecasted to be 24 degrees Celsius.
