Runway Usage Affected by Wind Direction The orientation of Delhi airport’s runways plays a crucial role in handling flights during wind shifts. When easterly winds prevail, only two runways, Runway 09 and Runway 11L, can be used for departures, and a single runway, Runway 11R, for arrivals. In contrast, when westerly winds blow, Runway 27 can be operated in mixed mode, supporting both arrivals and departures. The other two—Runway 29L and 29R—are designated separately for arrivals and departures, enabling smoother traffic flow.
Fourth Runway Expected to Reopen in May DIAL has assured that Runway 28/10 is expected to be operational again in the first week of May, after the ILS upgrade is completed. Until then, passengers are urged to stay updated on their flight schedules and arrive at the airport well in advance to avoid any last-minute hassles.
