Delhi Traffic Alert: Week-Long Disruption on GT Karnal Road — Check Full Advisory

Traffic on GT Karnal Road in Delhi will be affected all week due to pipeline repair work near Azadpur Mandi. Meanwhile, vehicle restrictions on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway begin from July 11, causing likely congestion.

Traffic on GT Karnal Road in both directions is likely to remain slow all week due to repair work on a leaking underground water pipeline near Sarai Pipal Gate in Azadpur Mandi, officials said on Monday. In view of the traffic disruptions, commuters are asked to take alternative routes to reach their destination. The Delhi Traffic Police explained that although they fixed the pipeline earlier, it has broken again. They have already cleaned the drains on the opposite side of the road, but they still need to restore the road slabs. This will take at least a week to complete.

“Due to leakage in the underground water pipeline in front of Sarai Pipal Gate, Azadpur Mandi, traffic movement is likely to be affected on GT Karnal Road in both directions. Despite earlier repairs, the pipeline has broken down again. Additionally, drain cleaning work has been completed on the opposite carriageway, but slab restoration is still pending,” read the official notice by the Delhi Traffic Police.

They expect traffic jams on both sides of the road in that area. From 19 July, even cars and smaller vehicles will be restricted. Vehicles will be diverted to the nearby NH-9, which will stay open. But since more traffic will use NH-9, it may lead to traffic congestion.

As of now, there are no restrictions on the Delhi side of the expressway, but delays are still expected due to extra traffic spilling over from the closed sections.
