India Closes 32 Airports Till May 15 Amid Tensions With Pakistan

Due to rising tensions with Pakistan and ongoing military actions under “Operation Sindoor,” India has temporarily suspended civil flight operations at 32 airports in the northern and western regions. This suspension is in place until 05:29 AM IST on May 15, 2025. Major airports affected include Srinagar, Chandigarh, Jammu, Leh, and Amritsar. The Ministry of Civil Aviation issued the order following continued provocations by Pakistan and India’s firm military response. Key airports like Ludhiana, Dharamsala, Shimla, Patiala, and Bhuntar are also impacted. Strategic defense airfields such as Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Leh, Pathankot, and Bhuj are included in the suspension due to their dual role in defense and civilian transport. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other aviation authorities have released several Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) about the closure, which began on May 9, citing operational needs during the heightened situation.

Operations have been temporarily suspended at the following airports: Adampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoise, and Uttarlai. Passengers are advised to get in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates and to make changes to their travel plans if needed.
