An Indian Army vehicle overturned on the Saputara–Shamgahan Ghat road in Dang district on Wednesday, leaving nine soldiers injured, three of them critically. No fatalities were reported in the incident. he accident occurred early on January 28 as the army convoy was travelling from Nashik in Maharashtra to Jodhpur in Rajasthan. While passing through the steep and winding ghat section near Shamgahan, a heavy army truck reportedly lost control while negotiating a sharp turn and overturned on the slope.
According to officials, the vehicle was carrying army artillery equipment. The heavy load combined with the steep descent is believed to have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The impact of the accident alerted nearby villagers, who rushed to the spot along with patrolling teams of the Dang district police. A total of 13 soldiers were inside the truck at the time of the mishap and were trapped following the overturning.
Locals and police personnel broke open parts of the cabin and windows and safely rescued all the soldiers. The swift response ensured that no lives were lost despite the severity of the accident. Of the 13 soldiers, nine sustained injuries, including fractures, glass cuts and internal injuries. Three soldiers are reported to be in critical condition, while the remaining personnel suffered minor injuries.
All injured soldiers were provided first aid at the site and later shifted by ambulance to Ahwa Civil Hospital. Doctors said the condition of the injured personnel is currently stable. Senior army officials also reached the hospital to monitor treatment. As the overturned vehicle was carrying defence cannons and sensitive military equipment, the Dang police immediately cordoned off the area to maintain security. Additional army units were deployed, and cranes along with technical teams were brought in to safely shift the equipment to another vehicle.
