JNN, Jabalpur. Two groups clashed in Sihora tehsil on Thursday night around 9 p.m. following a dispute. People became enraged when a railing outside a religious site broke. This led to stone-pelting by both groups. Some people were reportedly slightly injured. Police used mild force to disperse the rioters and also fired tear gas.
In view of the tension, Collector Raghavendra Singh and Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay arrived at the scene. Additional forces have been deployed. The police claim the situation is under control and will file a case after investigation.
The incident took place at Azad Chowk in Ward No. 5 of Sihora, where the Durga Temple and the mosque face each other. Aarti was being performed at the temple around 9 p.m. At the same time, some people arrived at the mosque to offer namaz. A heated argument broke out between youths from both communities over some issue.
