Central security forces, in coordination with civil police, recovered a significant cache of firearms and explosives during anti-insurgency operations in Imphal West and Thoubal districts over the past 48 hours, the police reported on Tuesday.
The first phase of the operation took place in the vulnerable areas of the Iroisemba Ching hill range under Lamphel police station in Imphal West. Security personnel retrieved a range of warlike materials, including an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately 3.5 kilograms, a WT handset with charger, five hand-grenades, three carbine magazines, 102 rounds of ammunition of different calibers, two empty 303 cases, eleven live Lathode shells, three live tear smoke shells, nine detonators, and an arm ring. While no arrests were made during the two-hour-long operation, the recovered items indicate the presence of arms and explosives in the area.
Following the success of the first operation, the joint team launched a second phase in a secluded location at Kakmayai Lamkhai village under Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district. The operation yielded further recoveries, including a double-barrelled firearm, four HE hand-grenades, six additional IEDs, two magazines of different arms, 138 rounds of ammunition, three 12-bore cartridges, and five detonators.
The police confirmed that all recovered items have been safely deposited at the respective police stations for further investigation and action. These operations underscore the ongoing vigilance of security forces in sensitive areas of Manipur and their commitment to preventing insurgent activity in the region.
