Mumbai CNG Gas: CNG gas supply to Mumbai was disrupted since Sunday afternoon due to a technical fault in the main GAIL gas pipeline in Mumbai’s Wadala area.
The citizens of Mumbai and its suburbs have been hit hard by the shortage of CNG for the past two days, with rickshaw and taxi drivers as well as common passengers and students suffering. After a sudden technical fault in the main pipeline of GAIL gas in Mumbai’s Wadala area on Sunday afternoon, the CNG supply in the entire Mumbai and Thane area was disrupted. Due to this fault, many CNG pumps were closed and a huge crowd was seen at the few pumps that were open.
The supply, which was shut down since Sunday, has not been fully restored on Monday and today (Tuesday). According to Mahanagar Gas Limited, the pipeline is still being repaired on a war footing. Alternative supply arrangements have been made to avoid any inconvenience to CNG users. Efforts are being made to keep CNG pumps running as much as possible. However, due to the low supply, long queues are being seen at CNG pumps.
Although some pumps in Navi Mumbai have started operating since last night, many are still closed. In Thane too, rickshaw and taxi traffic was disrupted due to non-availability of CNG for two consecutive days. Now, supply is gradually returning to normal in Thane, but the queues have not reduced yet.
Rickshaw and taxi drivers are having to park their vehicles due to lack of CNG. Their daily earnings have come to a standstill. They have to stand in queues for hours for CNG. A long queue has been seen at the pump in the Khopat area since early morning. The CNG shortage has had a direct impact on passengers. As rickshaws and taxis are getting less, the fares have increased and the waiting time has also increased.
Passengers have been seen waiting for rickshaws for a long time at many places including Kurla Station.
Due to the start of alternative supply from MGL, some pumps have started working and CNG has started being available. However, due to limited supply, the queues have not reduced. It may take some more time for the situation to fully recover. Due to this, passengers including rickshaw and taxi drivers have been hit hard.
