Mumbai remains under a yellow alert with heavy rain expected today and showers likely to continue through July 7. While Colaba surpassed its June rainfall average, Santacruz saw a slight shortfall despite an early monsoon onset. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city today. Heavy rainfall is expected throughout the day, accompanied by generally cloudy skies. Residents are advised to stay cautious, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

As June ended, rainfall data from Mumbai’s two key weather observatories revealed a mixed picture. The IMD’s Colaba station recorded 592 mm of rain, surpassing its monthly average of 542.3 mm. In contrast, the Santacruz observatory registered 512.7 mm, falling slightly below its average of 537.1 mm. Interestingly, this marginal shortfall in the suburbs occurred despite the city witnessing its earliest southwest monsoon onset on May 26.
Despite the rainfall shortfall in the suburbs, weather officials remain optimistic about the monsoon’s progress. According to the IMD’s district forecast, Mumbai is expected to receive rain at least until July 4.
