Heavy rain has lashed Mumbai, affecting traffic on several key routes. Due to the overnight rain today, parts of the city experienced waterlogging in certain areas, particularly in low-lying localities. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for further rain in Maharashtra’s capital. According to its weather update, a yellow alert will be in place in the city till August 18. There is no warning for August 16. However, residents are advised to stay alert and careful.
Mumbai’s seven main lakes, which supply water to the city, are now almost 90% full, according to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data on Tuesday. Together, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Vehar, Tulsi and Middle Vaitarna currently hold about 12.91 lakh million litres of usable water. These lakes are the city’s main source of water and are replenished by rainfall.
