Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport experienced significant disruptions on Sunday, with 66 flight cancellations attributed to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport saw 66 flight cancellations on Sunday as the escalating Middle East conflict continued to batter international air travel, with 34 departures and 32 arrivals grounded through the day. The disruption comes just days after a worse blackout on March 3, when 107 flights — 54 arrivals and 53 departures, were cancelled at the same airport, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded with little support or facilities.
Delhi was not spared either. On Saturday, 22 departures and 17 arrivals were cancelled at Indira Gandhi International Airport, taking the combined cancellation count across both cities to over 100 flights in a single day.
The conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which flared up on February 28, has led several Middle Eastern countries to shut their airspaces, forcing airlines operating westbound routes to cancel or significantly curtail services.
Air India confirmed it would continue flying to Jeddah and Muscat, both assessed as safe, and announced additional special flights to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat, Ras Al-Khaimah, and Sharjah on Sunday to repatriate stranded passengers.IndiGo said it would maintain services to eight Middle East destinations as well as European routes on March 8.
elhi airport operator DIAL cautioned that west-bound international flights may continue to face delays and itinerary changes until the situation stabilises.
