Thick fog is likely over Punjab and the northern districts of Rajasthan, with conditions favourable for reduced visibility during morning and late-night hours.
Fog returned across large parts of north India on Saturday, following unusual rainfall that led to a dip in temperatures across several regions on Friday, disrupting daily life and transport services.
Fog was reported over Punjab and the northern districts of Rajasthan, significantly reducing visibility during early morning and late-night hours. Several districts of Haryana also witnessed fog, impacting road and rail movement and slowing traffic in fog-prone stretches.
Cold conditions continued to prevail across the region as dry north-westerly winds dominated much of north India. Daytime temperatures remained subdued, with the chill persisting even during daylight hours in several areas.
Devendra Tripathi, founder of Mausam Tak and weather vlogger for Kisan Tak, said fog extended into parts of Delhi-NCR, central Uttar Pradesh and northern Madhya Pradesh, though conditions showed marginal improvement compared to previous days.In contrast to the fog-bound north, southern India is preparing for a change in weather pattern. A developing system over the south is likely to bring heavy rainfall over coastal Tamil Nadu. Interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala and south interior Karnataka could witness light, scattered rain.
Parts of Maharashtra may also see increased cloud cover. Southern cities and districts including Pune, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Solapur, Jalna, Beed and Hingoli are likely to experience cloudy skies, though widespread rainfall is not expected.Cloud bands may also appear over eastern and central India, including Patna, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Raipur, Jabalpur, Rewa, Singrauli and even Varanasi.
The foggy conditions also disrupted flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Hindon Airport. Delhi Airport issued a passenger advisory at 6.35 am, urging travellers to check real-time winter travel updates as fluctuating visibility continued to affect flight schedules.IndiGo advised passengers to regularly monitor their flight status and said those impacted could opt for rebooking or refunds. Airport teams are available at terminals to assist passengers, and flight operations are expected to stabilise gradually once weather conditions improve.
Commuters in fog-prone areas were advised to exercise caution during early hours, while residents and farmers in southern states were urged to remain alert for rain-related disruptions.
