Kolhapur: Farmers from as many as 12 districts across Maharashtra, gathering under the umbrella of Shaktipeeth Highway Virodhi Sangharsh Samiti, will carry out a protest march on Wednesday from Azad Maidan in Mumbai to the state assembly. The farmers are demanding cancellation of the highway that will connect Pavnar in Wardha to Patradevi in Sindhudurg district — also known as the Nagpur-Goa Expressway. According to the organisers, over 10,000 farmers will take part in the march.
Shaktipeeth Highway Virodhi Sangharsh Samiti coordinator Girish Phonde said, “Unity of 12 districts against the highway is intact. A large crowd will gather at the Azad Maidan under the leadership of former MP Raju Shetti and MLC Satej Patil. Our only demand is the cancellation of this unnecessary expressway.” He added, “CM Devendra Fadnavis had said govt is serious about the farmers. But farmers are being arrested if they try to protest to save their land.”
