Chennai: Ahead of the Pongal holidays, Tambaram police has announced traffic regulations and route diversions. The measures aimed at easing congestion, particularly on routes leading to Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) at Kilambakkam, will be in force from Jan 12-14, and Jan 18-19, said a press release.
Between 2pm and 2am on these dates, heavy vehicles will not be permitted on Grand Southern Trunk Road, Pammal–Kundrathur Road, Thiruneermalai Road, 200 Feet Radial Road, Tambaram–Velachery Road, Gandhi Road, and Mudichur Road.
Traffic diversions are in place for vehicles on the Vandalur–Kelambakkam Road — those heading to the Nallambakkam crusher junction are diverted either via Keerapakkam towards Karanai Puducherry or through Vengambakkam towards Mappedu.
Alternate routes are designated for heavy vehicles approaching Tambaram from different directions. Heavy vehicles coming from Kundrathur Outer Ring Road side are diverted at Madha Engineering College service road and routed via Sriperumbudur. Vehicles from Kancheepuram and Oragadam heading to Tambaram are diverted at Mudichur Road–Outer Ring Road junction and directed along Outer Ring Road.
Heavy vehicles approaching from Maduravoyal are diverted to the top of Maduravoyal bypass flyover and allowed to proceed via Poonamallee. Those coming from the Outer Ring Road to Tambaram are diverted at Mannivakkam junction and routed through Oragadam.
Heavy vehicles from ECR are diverted at Kovalam junction via Thiruporur, while those coming from Old Mahabalipuram Road are rerouted through the Padur junction and Sengalmal junction towards Mamallapuram. Vehicles from Chengalpet heading to Tambaram are diverted through Singaperumal Koil to Sriperumbudur, via the Vandalur Outer Ring Road to Padappai, or through the old Vandalur flyover to Walajabad Road.
