Due to an ongoing severe cold wave and dense fog across northern India, authorities have extended winter vacations and announced temporary school closures across multiple states, including the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR).
Key updates on school closures:
Delhi: All government and private schools will remain closed until January 15, 2026, as cold weather and poor visibility pose travel risks for students.
Noida (Uttar Pradesh): Schools, especially for Nursery to Class 8, will remain shut through January 15 following a district administration order prioritising student safety in dense fog conditions.
Gurugram (Haryana): Both government and private institutions will continue holidays until January 15 amid extreme cold and low visibility.
Ghaziabad (UP): Schools up to Class 5 have also been included in the extended closures until January 15 due to the harsh weather.
Other states affected:
Punjab previously extended winter holidays until January 13 in response to the cold wave. Officials cited the India Meteorological Department’s warnings of sub‑normal temperatures and persistent fog that reduce visibility — making commuting unsafe for young students. The closures aim to safeguard health by reducing risks of cold‑related illnesses and travel hazards during peak winter conditions. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to stay updated through official school and district communications on any further changes to schedules or reopening dates.
