Tamil Nadu Chennai Rains, IMD Weather Forecast Highlights: Tamil Nadu witnessed relentless rainfall on Friday, causing the Thamirabarani River to swell and overflow in several regions. Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to evacuate and move to safer locations to avoid potential risks. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have deployed emergency response teams to assist those affected.

In Chennai, flood alerts were announced near the Redhills and Chembarambakkam reservoirs due to rising water levels, and the discharge from the Poondi dam was increased to 12,000 cusecs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the rains will continue until December 16.

As heavy rain continued to lash Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, schools in multiple areas of the region have been shut. Puducherry Education Minister Namachivayam announced the closure of all schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal on Friday. Similarly, Madurai District Collector M C Sangeetha has declared a holiday for all schools in the district on Friday, citing the persistent downpour.
