Anti-India Forces Eyeing Twin International Summits in Delhi, Security On High Alert

Ahead of the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit and the International Big Cat Alliance summit in New Delhi from May 28 to June 1.

Delhi Police has stepped up security and traffic preparations ahead of two major international summits scheduled to be held in the national capital later this month. Delhi Traffic police officials on Tuesday said extensive arrangements have been made to ensure smooth movement for the public while providing high-level security for visiting global leaders and dignitaries.

The upcoming events include the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit and the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) summit, which will be held between May 28 and June 1 in New Delhi.

According to officials, security agencies are closely monitoring both physical movement and digital platforms amid concerns over possible threats from anti-India elements during the high-profile events.

Delhi Police, along with intelligence agencies and traffic units, has prepared a detailed security and traffic management plan. As part of the arrangements, around 22 route diversions have been planned across the city to manage VIP movement and summit-related traffic.Police officials said efforts are being made to ensure that daily commuters, office-goers and residents do not face major inconvenience during the events.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Delhi Traffic Police has coordinated with Google Maps and MapMyIndia so that commuters can automatically be guided away from VIP routes during summit days. This step comes after many commuters faced long traffic jams during the AI Summit held in Delhi earlier this year.

Authorities are also using social media platforms, including X, Instagram and Facebook, to regularly update people about diversions, restricted routes and alternate roads. Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) have also been informed about possible route closures.

Special arrangements have also been made for taxi and ride-hailing services. Uber, Ola, Rapido and Bharat Taxi have reportedly designated pickup and drop points near Bhairav Mandir and the Supreme Court area for visitors. DTC buses will also help transport passengers to nearby metro stations.

Delhi Police has also started conducting mock drills and dress rehearsals in different parts of the city. Security teams were seen carrying out vehicle checks, intercepting suspicious cars and rehearsing VIP motorcade movement routes.

DCP Traffic Shobhit Saksena said, “We have two summits starting on May 28 until June 1. We are expecting heads of states, in view of the summit in Bharat Mandapam and Taj Mahal hotel, we don’t want people to be inconvenienced. So we have written to Google maps and MapMyIndia, informing them about the diversions. Twitter, Instagram and Facebook also being used to inform people of the routes to take and what to avoid. People will be aware, our staff will assist the public. We want to make sure that stopped traffic is diverted to another route by moving along the Ring Road. Delhi police acting as a cohesive unit, all have different roles and we are practicing to make the summit a success.”

Officials said the city police are working round the clock to ensure both security and smooth traffic management during the international events.
