Mahalaya, October 10 Goods vehicles will not be allowed to enter the city between 3am and 10pm, except those carrying LPG, CNG, petroleum, oil, lubricants, oxygen, vegetables, medicine, fruits, fish and milk. Light vehicles weighing up to 1,600 kg, such as the Tata Ace, may enter from 4pm. Between 4am and 4pm, goods vehicles are barred from Strand Road and St Georges Gate Road, and from heading north at several key crossings, including Girish Park and Manicktala. Auckland Road will be closed to all vehicles during those hours. Traffic around the Ganga bathing ghats will be tightly regulated for devotees.
From Tritiya on October 13 to Navami on October 19, goods vehicles are prohibited citywide during daily windows that begin between 6am and 8am and run until the early hours of the next day, ending between midnight and 4 am. Emergency and essential supplies are exempt. Port-related goods vehicles may move from 12pm to 4pm, while light goods vehicles may move from 12pm to 3pm. Vehicles under 1,600 kg may operate until 3pm.From about 3pm or 4pm each day, dozens of lanes and roads in north, central, south, south-west and southern suburban Kolkata will be closed to all but property-line vehicles. These include B.K. Paul Avenue, Bhaba Nath Sen Street, Dover Lane, Charu Avenue, Tilak Road, North Sealdah Road and Kalighat Road.
Goods vehicles unconnected to immersion processions will be barred from 8am to 5am from October 20 to October 24, and from 8am to 4am during the period from October 26 to October 27 for Laxmi Puja immersions. Vehicles tied to processions may move freely.
From 3 pm until immersions finish, more than 50 roads, including Strand Road, Nimtala Ghat Street, Beadon Street and Baghbazar Street, will see diversions. Parking will be prohibited on key routes, and designated routes to each ghat have been set. Image-carrying vehicles will be barred from the AJC Bose Road and MAA flyovers. Strand Road and St Georges Gate Road will be one-way, north to south. Police said officers may divert vehicles and regulate pedestrians on any road as needed. The measures apply on top of regular restrictions.
