COVID-19-Like Symptoms Surge in Delhi-NCR: 56% Households Affected

A LocalCircles survey finds 56% of Delhi-NCR households report COVID-19-like symptoms, mainly due to Influenza A (H3N2). Though cases declined, infections remain widespread, with experts urging continued precautions.

A recent survey by LocalCircles has revealed that more than half of households across Delhi-NCR are currently dealing with illness. Around 56 per cent of families reported at least one member experiencing COVID-19-like symptoms, including fever, cough, and sore throat – highlighting the continued spread of respiratory infections in the region.

The large-scale citizen survey covered key areas, including Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. It offers a real-time snapshot of how common viral infections, like COVID-19, flu, and viral fever, remain.

Key findings show that at least 44 per cent of households reported no illness, while 12 per cent had one member sick, 33 per cent reported 2 to 3 individuals unwell, and 11 per cent had four or more members affected. These numbers indicate that while nearly half of households remain unaffected, a significant portion is dealing with multiple infections at once, increasing the burden on families.

Doctors point to Influenza A, also known as H3N2, as a major contributor to the current wave. Other viruses, including coronaviruses and metapneumovirus, are also circulating simultaneously. These conditions can weaken immunity, making people more vulnerable to infections and enabling faster transmission. Environmental factors are playing a key role, which include:

Poor air quality in Delhi-NCR due to high pollution levels

Fluctuating temperatures since it has suddenly become warm after temperatures dropped suddenly due to the rain

Seasonal transitions from winter to summer

The rise in viral infections is significantly affecting daily routines. Families with multiple sick members are facing increased caregiving responsibilities, missed school days for children, and workplace absenteeism.

Doctors say high-risk groups, including senior citizens and individuals with conditions like asthma, diabetes, and heart disease, are more likely to develop more health complications. However, there is a slight improvement compared to previous weeks. The percentage of affected households has dropped from 69 to 56 per cent, suggesting that the peak of the current wave may have passed. But experts warn that infections are still widespread, and complacency could lead to another surge.

The survey highlights that viral infections remain highly prevalent in Delhi-NCR, even as numbers begin to ease slightly. With more than half of households still affected, staying cautious and proactive is essential. As seasonal changes continue, prioritizing immune health, hygiene, and early care can help reduce the spread and protect vulnerable populations.
