Amid rising H1N1 (swine flu) cases in the city, Delhi health minister will hold a meeting with officials of all government hospitals and municipal health officers (MHO) on Monday to assess the situation, officials aware of the matter said on Sunday.Health minister Pankaj Singh has also issued directions to chief district medical officers, district surveillance officers and hospitals on the screening, reporting, and monitoring of influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) cases.
“Technical guidelines covering patient categorisation, treatment protocols, ventilatory management, masks and home care have already been circulated. Healthcare workers are being sensitised and trained on symptoms and follow-up protocols,” said one official.
This comes after Singh attended the health review meeting chaired by Union minister for health and family welfare JP Nadda.
Nadda had stressed the need for continued vigilance, stronger surveillance and early clinical management to prevent further spread.
According to official Delhi health authorities, the Capita has recorded 2,392 influenza-A cases have been reported in this year. Of this, the H1N1 subtype accounts for 1,777 cases.
H1N1 is a subtype of the influenza A virus that emerged during the 2009 swine flu pandemic. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the pandemic over in 2010, the virus continues to circulate as a seasonal influenza strain.
