Commuters using west Delhi’s heavily congested Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar corridor are expected to face significant traffic disruptions over the next month and a half after a major stretch beneath Nawada Metro Station was closed for repair work.
According to Delhi Traffic Police, a section of the carriageway on the Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar Main Road, from Dwarka Mod towards Uttam Nagar between Metro pillars 722 and 723, has remained shut since May 20. The closure is expected to continue for nearly 45 days
The traffic restrictions have been imposed to facilitate urgent trenchless sewer line restoration work being carried out by the Delhi Jal Board beneath the affected stretch. As the route serves as one of west Delhi’s busiest traffic corridors, authorities expect congestion to intensify during office rush hours and peak market timings. Daily commuters travelling between Najafgarh, Dwarka Mod, Uttam Nagar and Tilak Nagar are likely to experience delays and slow-moving traffic throughout the repair period.
To ease pressure on the affected route, Delhi Traffic Police has introduced a diversion strategy for buses, commercial vehicles and other heavy transport.
Vehicles travelling from the Najafgarh side towards Uttam Nagar have been advised to divert through Dwarka Mod towards Dabri Mor. Similarly, buses and heavy vehicles approaching from Tilak Nagar and Uttam Nagar towards Najafgarh and Dwarka Mod will also be rerouted to minimise congestion near the construction zone.
Traffic personnel have been deployed at key junctions to regulate movement and assist motorists navigating alternative routes.Authorities have urged local residents and light motor vehicle users to avoid the affected road wherever possible and opt for alternate routes to reduce travel delays.Motorists have also been requested to plan journeys in advance, follow diversion instructions carefully and park vehicles only at designated locations to prevent additional congestion in nearby areas.
Delhi Traffic Police said commuters could access real-time traffic updates and assistance through the department’s helpline services and official social media platforms during the closure period.
