Delhi is likely to witness thunderstorms and light rain on Tuesday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the national capital. According to the weather department, the city may see cloudy skies along with thunder, lightning and gusty winds during the day. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may settle near 27 degrees Celsius.
On Monday, Delhi recorded relatively pleasant weather conditions compared to the intense heat seen in recent weeks. The Safdarjung weather station, considered the official marker for the capital, recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius, which was two notches below normal. The minimum temperature stood at 27.1 degrees Celsius.
Several other weather stations, including Palam, Ridge, Lodhi Road and Ayanagar, also recorded below-normal maximum temperatures ranging between 36.7 and 37.2 degrees Celsius.Despite cloudy conditions, no rainfall was recorded in the city on Monday. Humidity levels fluctuated between 42 and 59 per cent during the day.
The IMD forecast shows partly cloudy skies and chances of thunder and lightning on May 13, while temperatures are expected to gradually rise later this week. The maximum temperature may touch 40 degrees Celsius by May 17 under mainly clear sky conditions.According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s 24-hour average air quality was recorded in the ‘moderate’ category with an average air quality index (AQI) being clocked at 131. According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’. The minimum and maximum temperatures on Tuesday are likely to be 27 and 35 degrees Celsius, respectively, according to the met department.
The humidity throughout the day oscillated between 59 and 42 per cent in the national capital. The maximum temperature across stations ranged between 36.7 degrees Celsius and 37.5 degrees Celsius, making it a bearable start to the second week of May.
