Heavy monsoon rains have intensified across Karnataka’s Kodagu district, severely impacting daily life, particularly in the Madikeri and Somwarpet taluks.
Schools Closed: The district administration has declared a holiday for schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centers in the Madikeri and Somwarpet taluks as a strict precautionary measure.
Rivers Overflowing: The Cauvery River is swelling, completely submerging the Triveni Sangama and bathing ghats at Bhagamandala.
Dams at Capacity: The Harangi Reservoir is full. With massive inflows continuing from the catchment areas, authorities are discharging heavy volumes of water into the river, prompting flood warnings for residents living downstream.
Roads & Landslides: Continuous downpours have triggered landslides, including one at 2nd Monnangeri village, disrupting local traffic. Authorities have also barricaded partially submerged bridges to prevent accidents.
Minor Damages: Several areas have reported uprooted trees, power cuts, and minor infrastructure damage, including a house wall collapse in Madikeri.
