A significant water supply disruption occurred in several regions of South and Central Mumbai due to a major leak in a large underground pipeline near Mahalaxmi.
Several areas in South and Central Mumbai faced water supply disruption on Thursday after a major leak was detected in a large underground water pipeline near Mahalaxmi. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the leak occurred in a 1,650 mm diameter main water pipeline located on Dr E Moses Road near Famous Studio. Officials said the problem was noticed late on Wednesday night after a crack developed in the pipeline, leading to heavy water loss.
Following the incident, the civic body launched emergency repair work on a “war footing”. However, due to the scale of the damage, water supply had to be completely shut or reduced in several parts of D Ward, E Ward and G South Ward.
In D Ward, areas such as Lamington Road, Grant Road East, Tardeo, Mumbai Central Station, Shuklaji Street and nearby localities are facing either a complete water cut or low-pressure supply.In E Ward, residents in Kamathipura, Agripada, Nagpada, Belasis Road, the Nair Hospital area, Kasturba Hospital area and nearby localities are also affected by the disruption.
Meanwhile, parts of Saat Rasta, Worli Dhobi Ghat, Dr E Moses Road and nearby residential areas in G South Ward are facing complete disruption in water supply.Civic officials said repair work is being carried out continuously and teams are trying to restore normal supply as soon as possible. The municipal corporation has appealed to residents in affected areas to use water carefully and avoid wastage during the disruption period.
