Kolkata will implement extensive traffic restrictions on May 9 to accommodate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit for the West Bengal government’s swearing-in ceremony. These regulations, effective from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM, will limit the movement of goods vehicles within the city, allowing exceptions for essential supplies.

Kolkata is all set to see extensive traffic restrictions on May 9 (Saturday) in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly formed West Bengal government at Brigade Parade Ground. The traffic advisory aims to ensure security and facilitate the smooth movement of dignitaries. The traffic restrictions will be in place from morning to late evening hours.

The Kolkata Police have announced that traffic regulations will be in place from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM. During this period, the entry and movement of goods vehicles will be restricted within the city limits, with exceptions made for vehicles transporting essential supplies such as LPG, CNG, and medical necessities.

These restrictions are designed to alleviate congestion and maintain order as the Prime Minister’s convoy navigates through the city.Authorities will enforce traffic controls on several crucial routes, including Esplanade Ramp, K.P. Road, Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, Casuarina Avenue, and Queensway. The police have indicated that these restrictions will be enacted “as and when necessary,” adapting to the Prime Minister’s movements and the associated convoy.

Commuters should expect diversions and potential temporary suspensions of traffic on these arterial roads. In addition to the traffic restrictions, parking will be strictly prohibited along multiple roads adjacent to the Brigade Parade Ground, particularly around Victoria Memorial Hall. Key areas affected include AJC Bose Road, Khidderpore Road, and Cathedral Road.

With the city’s infrastructure under strain from increased VVIP movement, the police are prepared to adapt their strategies to ensure a secure and smooth experience for all involved.

Commuters are advised to remain vigilant and informed regarding traffic updates throughout the day. The Kolkata traffic advisory highlights the need for public cooperation in facilitating the successful execution of this significant event.

Vehicles found parked in these no-parking zones may be removed to ensure unobstructed access for emergency and official convoys.
